About

The Rather Prize is a five-figure prize to a student, teacher, or administrator who can best provide an idea to improve Texas education. The prize is open to anyone answering the question “What is your best idea to improve education in the state of Texas?”


Eligibility

Persons eligible are any current or recent student in a Texas middle school, high school or college (recent students who are not currently enrolled must have attended a Texas school within the last three years), or any Texas state-certified teacher or administrator, current or retired.


Submissions

 All submissions will be looked at by UT-Austin/Rather Prize workers and volunteers and scored via rubric. 


Winner

The winner will ultimately be announced in March 2021, winning our ten-thousand dollar prize. With SXSW.edu as our media sponsor, the winner will receive our monetary award (which can be used for any educational purpose) along with the opportunity to present their idea at South by Southwest 2021.
